What is SARA?
SARA is a comprehensive portfolio of education and training that addresses the needs of clinicians, nurses and other allied health professionals in primary, secondary and tertiary care, but also the pharmaceutical industry, schools, the catering industry, policymakers, academics and patients/parents across Scotland.
Professors Aziz Sheikh and Jürgen Schwarze are Co-Directors of the Academy (link to biog page?). The training will be delivered in workshopsby a faculty of experts in locations across Scotland, in addition to webcasts, webinars and other training material available online; thus developing a national and widely-accessible resource.
A series of core courses are being established around three main conditions: asthma, allergy and COPD. In addition ‘core skills’ courses are being set up, including topics such as supporting self-management, which are applicable across all sectors and conditions.
Topics to be covered in future courses include:
Asthma: asthma management, asthma treatment, asthma in sport, allergic asthma.
Allergy: allergic rhinitis, allergy diagnosis, allergy management, anaphylaxis, allergy and the skin, allergy and gastroenterology.
COPD: COPD management, COPD treatment, end of life care in COPD.
General: Self-management skills, smoking cessation.
