Allergic reactions can range from mild rashes and sneezing attacks, to distressing widespread hives and skin swelling, breathing difficulties and in the most severe cases life threatening anaphylaxis.
Allergies can have an impact on a child’s physical, social and emotional wellbeing, affecting performance at school, relationships with family and friends and social outings.
CYANS, the Children’s and Young People’s Allergy Network Scotland, is a National Managed Clinical Network that has been established to focus on improving health service provision for children and young people with allergies in Scotland.
CYANS was developed as a result of a review of allergy services in Scotland which highlighted the need for improvements in allergy service provision and is funded by the Scottish government.
The name Children’s and Young People’s Allergy Network Scotland was agreed by group members at the inaugural steering group meeting in August 2011 as the most suitable to represent the vision of the network. The CYANS logo was chosen as the most popular logo in a poll by young people and their families who were asked to vote for their favorite logo from a selection presented on the Asthma UK Scotland’s website.
